Aleria returns to Kilrush

View from the dock at sunset in Kilrush

I asked Alex to organise crew for the delivery. I just didn't feel like pushing through on a delivery trip. Cormac and Louise were co-opted for the trip, although Louise would have to bail out at Inishmore as she has to be at work on Monday. Ciaran Murphy, Michael Murphy's son, asked to join the crew. However, he called Friday that he'd had a car accident and would have to bow out.

They departed Friday evening from our house. It was pouring rain and had been for three days due to post-tropical cyclone Sam dumping buckets of rain on us. The plan was to head out on the high spring tide and anchor at Clare Island, then head out early for Kilronan on Inishmore. Depart Inishmore at 10 am sharp the next day (after dropping Louise off to take the ferry) to catch the incoming tide in the Shannon River at 4 pm. Cormac and Alex would take her from Inishmore to Kilrush. Aleria would be hauled Monday and I would drive down to pick them up.

Nautical plans often change.

They got to Clare Island after dark and all the boats from the salmon farm were in the harbour. They tried to anchor but it wouldn't hold. Cormac finally was able to snag a mooring. They had the spaghetti bolognese I made the night before and went to bed. In the morning, Ciaran took the fast ferry out to Clare and joined them after all.

They motored over to the Cliffs of Moher for some sightseeing, then continued on to Inishmore. They dropped anchor in Kilronan at about 4 pm and went ashore for drinks and dinner with a friend of Cormac's. No wind again for this trip but at least they had sailed out to Clare.

They took off from Inishmore after dropping Louise off, and rounded Loop Head shortly after 4 per schedule. They got a 3-knot push from the current and tied up at the dock just before sunset. They are meeting up with Murph for dinner so it looks like I am off the hook for driving down to pick them up.

Otherwise, I am processing harvest bounties and herding kitties. Lots of kitty stuff going on with dogs chasing cats and cats having hissy fits with each other, and starving Orangina begging for food.

I picked crabs and made tomato soup. Visited Meike yesterday and today. Lots of little busy stuff.

Tomorrow I go for a walk or kayak paddle. Then bake courgette cake, do the laundry and pick more crab. This is the busy time of year. I should also be mowing the grass and pulling weeds. But it was still too wet today.

Taking off in wet weather

The two videos below are the day after the rain stopped. The amount of water on the land was extraordinary. All empty buckets around the place were 3/4 full. I should go check on Alya tomorrow.
