Aleria's Adventures

We departed Bouzas on an outgoing morning tide just after high water.  We were heading for Ensenada de Barra with just the Yankee and mizzen up. It started as a gentle sail but the breeze kept building and veered to the south, kicking up a swell that would have made Barra uncomfortable.  So we did as cruisers do. We edited our plans and turned toward Ria de Aldan instead.

Fishermen off Barra Enough of marinas. Our next few days are meant to be swinging on a hook. On our way out, we buzzed by the Ilhas de Cies and saw Celtic Spirit anchored there. Michael hailed us on the radio and Alex chatted for a while. They were on their way to Porto in Portugal and would be back in September. We vowed to meet up then.

Beautiful view over the Ria de Aldan from O Hio Between the Ria de Pontevedra and Ria de Vigo is the small Ria de Aldan. Ria de Aldan is exposed to the north and, given the predominant northerlies, it can be subject to swell. It is also chock full of mussel rafts which tend to smooth out the waters some. It is a  popular weekend destination for the local yachting population and the anchorage does get rather full. It is worth every effort to find a spot, as this little place, with no marina, has plenty of charm and the warmest water of any ria.
