Friends in Portosin

Image
Aleria 's Irish flag clearly visible in the marina We wanted to stop by to say goodbye temporarily to Carmella and Carmen at the RCN in Portosin. We heard in the meantime that RCC was going to be coming there for a stopover on a cruise in company. Peter Hayden, ICC and OCC, helped them organize it. At the last instant, we heard that Peter Whatley, OCC & RCC, was going to be in the day we were heading in. I worked closely with Peter when he was VC for OCC and really enjoyed it. It would be nice to see him again and the new Van de Stadt exploration vessel her had built.

La Solitaire URGO Le Figaro - the challenge!

Image
La Solitaire URGO Le Figaro single-handed race is run in stages of about 500 miles each. It is known as the preparatory event for sailors contemplating the Vendee Globe, the non-stop around the world solo challengethat is the ultimate test of endurance on the high seas. Our 'niece', Joan Mulloy has her sights set on the Vendee and this year entered the Solitaire to test her mettle.

Ria de Muros e Noia

The view from the clubhouse at RCNP  The Ria de Muros e Noia (Muros y Noya in Spanish) provided us with a lovely cruising experience. Portosin was a great location for starting out because of the fabulous staff and the first rate facilities. The Real Club Nautico Portosin (RCNP) were so accommodating and friendly. I feel like Carmela is now a lifelong friend. They even posted a photo of the ICC burgee and Rally logo on their Facebook page.
