A bicycle trip to the Museo

We decided to take a break on Saturday morning to visit the Museo de Mar where there was a special exhibition of the Camino Voyage. The Camino Voyage was the story of four men (and a fifth later on) who rowed a curragh from Dublin to Santiago de Compostela. It was a recreation of the Celtic Camino by sea route in a traditional Irish vessel made of wooden ribs covered in animal hides. They made a movie about the trip which was really excellent and I've written about that before. We loved the museum when we visited last year and we wanted to see the exhibit while it was on.

Basically, craftsmen are restoring the Curragh on site in the museum while retelling the story. Unfortunately, we had a later start than we'd hoped (Spain is an hour ahead of Ireland) and arrived at 1 o'clock when the museum was closing at 2. The men who'd been working that day had already left. But we saw the boat and the tools and storyboards, and it was worth the effort. It was also a lovely bike ride along the river tributary.

We decided to ride the bike path all the way around the other wide and enjoyed beautiful vistas over the Ria de Vigo and the Islas Cies. On return, we got back to work, Alex working on the forward head and me on cleaning the interior of the boat. When I finally went to the supermarket, it had already closed. Bummer. Low on toilet paper, but everything else we could manage.

When it came down to dinner selections, Alex led the way. We found a small family wine and tapas restaurant on a back courtyard away from the waterfront. PicoFino was delightful. Children running every which way with parents chasing. Staff friendly and helpful. We again chose a local wine, this time a verde from Granbazan which we had sampled at the bodega when we visited the first year. Alex chose the Raxo pork dish and I chose a seafood and veg tempura. They were both scrumptious and we cleaned our plates. Back to the boat and back to deep satisfying slumber. Can't wait to get out on the hook.
